1. I think that Melinda is depressed because all of her friends hate her and don't want to talk to her. When she tries to talk to them they make rude comments and walk away. She used to have a whole group of friends that she hung out with but now its just her "all Alone"
2. I think everyone hates her because she called the cops at a party at someones house and some kids got arrested. I don't know why she called the cops. I think its because either she got raped or she saw someone get raped. I think this because on the back of the book it states hints towards that.

I think she got raped. I mean I don't think she would actually call the police unless she was the one getting raped. She just isn't that type of person.
