1. I loved the end of this book. I thought it was really good because in the end Yoko, Ko and Hideyo all met and so now Yoko and Ko can go places because they have a male guardian now. I am so happy that they finally met because Yoko was starting to get really depressed because they had no money. Now they have Hideyo.
I feel really bad for Hideyo because he needs to find out that his mother died. I would hate to finally come home and see your sisters for the first time in months and the first thing you find out is that your mother died.

Now that they have Hideyo back they can get more food because now Hideyo can work to. I think the Kawashima family's life is slowly getting better. When they first started this trip they we starving and had no idea how to take care of themselves.
Now they know how to get food and water. In the book on page 151 Yoko suggests that they get food out of the garbage and Ko responds by saying " I wont let you do that anymore" in other words Ko thinks that now that they have somewhere to live they can by there own food so they don't have to eat in the trash anymore.
Yoko is getting better at taking care of herself. She is willing to eat in the trash so she doesn't have to spend mothers money

2. The Kawashima family was originally from Aomori japan, where the Cherry blossoms grow. The family even though they lived in Korea they still had there Japanese customs. When they where in Japan they both bought beach other special presets for new years day. Ko bought Yoko rice cakes and Yoko bought Ko Green tea fish and miso soup. Even though they were in Korea they still where every Japanese.
The mother brought the family's sword because it had been in the Kawashima family for years and she didn't want to forget it at there house.
3. I respect Ko the most because she is the one the whole time who is taking her none of them would have survived. Ko was the one getting the food the whole time. She was the one who got everything ready for food, who found out where they would sleep what they would do. If Ko had died so would they have because Ko is the best she is the one who took care of them the whole time. Even though she is young Ko is mature for her age.
Probably second i would have put mother no offence to Yoko but all she did was whine the WHOLE TIME!! i understand why Ko was always mad a her. Because she was the one doing everything and Yoko was just complaining about how bad everything was when she was trying to make it better. I respect Ko!!!.
4. In this book i learned about the Korean war. Basically all the Japanese people who where living in Korea where now treated as trash because the Japanese had lost the war so in the book the Koreans where happy. In the book the Koreans where raping Japaneses girls because they we celebrating there new fond freedom.
I admit that i would be happy that i got my freedom after 50 or so years but i wouldn't go around raping little girls for fun!!. I mean who would do that?
5. Always be thankful for what you have because you don't know when it could be taken away. i used that because in the beginning Yoko wouldn't eat carrot because she didn't like them and in the middle 0f the book when she was starving she would have been happy to eat those carrots.
Always be nice to your sister/brother because no matter what they say they still love you. This one is because all through the book Yoko is always describing how she hated her older sister because she is always being mean and in the end Yoko finds out she did that because she loves her.
All in all I loved this book and hope i can read it again
